Andretti’s F1 bid given FIA green light as new team one step closer to joining championship
Andretti is one step closer to joining the F1 grid as their bid for General Motors brand Cadillac has been approved by the FIA; but F1 owners have yet to give the green light, so Andretti’s presence on the grid will not yet be announced

Andretti has been given the green light by the FIA to compete in Formula 1, but is now awaiting approval from F1’s owners.
In January the FIA, the sport’s governing body, launched an application process for new teams looking to enter Formula 1 in 2025, 2026 (when the new engine rules come into effect) or 2027.
The FIA and Liberty Media-owned Formula 1, which controls the sport’s commercial rights, both have a say in the matter.
Now that the FIA accepts the application, Air sports understands that F1’s perspective on this matter will now be purely commercial and financial and they are expected to make their assessment on Andretti’s bid in a number of months.
Formula 1 currently has ten teams and is limited to a maximum of twelve teams through the 2025 season under the current Concorde Agreement, the document that binds together the rules and governance of the sport.
Former racing driver Michael Andretti is on the eve of an offer from his team, which races in other motorsport disciplines, in collaboration with General Motors brand Cadillac.
