The Tomb Raider actress revealed in September 2021 that she had quietly welcomed a baby boy earlier that year — with Michael.

Last year, Alicia opened up about the pain she endured after suffering an “extreme” miscarriage before becoming pregnant with her first child.

Alicia spoke about and admitted the “painful” struggles she faced during her journey to becoming a mother The times that the couple ‘took time’ to conceive their first child together.

“We have a child now, but it took us time,” she said, before revealing that she suffered a “painful, extreme” miscarriage before becoming pregnant with her son.

She also compared her experiences to her 2016 film The Light Between Oceans, in which she starred opposite Michael, with the pair playing a childless couple who experience two miscarriages and eventually adopt a girl lost at sea.

Alicia added, “(The miscarriage) was such an extreme, painful thing to go through and of course it reminded me of making that movie (The Light Between Oceans). That film now has a different meaning.”

The Ex Machina star added: ‘Sometimes you go through things that are difficult in life and when you have an office job you can take some distance.

She has avoided discussing her and Michael’s child in public, but did in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2022, the Oscar-winning star opened up about motherhood, saying she always puts her “little family” first.

She said: ‘In my little family, with my husband and my child, we always travel together. That’s the rule. We do chores so one of us can always be with the baby.”

During that same interview, Alicia shed some light on her fertility issues, telling the publication that she “struggled for a while.”

“I tried to get pregnant for a while,” she said. “So I’ve had some tough times during lockdown. I struggled for a while. For a while I thought I wouldn’t be able to get pregnant.’

She added that she decided to talk about her problems to help other women going through similar experiences.
