Sydney couple’s shock at $120 parking fine while they were inside hospital giving birth

Sydney couple have been shocked by a $120 parking fine while in hospital

A young couple told of their shock when they received a parking fine during childbirth.

Greg Mullins and Carly Earl were fined $120 for exceeding the parking time limit by just 12 minutes after driving to a Sydney hospital for the birth of their daughter Hazel.

The Marrickville couple disputed the fine and thought they had a reasonable excuse, but weeks later they were shocked to discover the fine would not be withdrawn.

Young mother Carly Earl (pictured) who gave birth to her baby daughter was left shocked after her partner was fined for leaving his car in a car park just 12 minutes over the limit while his wife was in labour

‘We thought it was laughable. We thought there was absolutely no way that a disputed fine for someone in labor would ever be dismissed,” Carly said. 9News.

“We acknowledge your comments that your wife was in labor and you were unable to leave to pay for additional parking, but we cannot cancel the fine,” Revenue NSW told the couple in a letter.

The couple was stunned by the letter.

Carly's partner, Greg Mullins, was fined $120 weeks after the birth of the couple's daughter after his car was left in a parking lot for a few minutes longer than the parking limit.

“There’s not a person on this planet who could imagine their partner excusing themselves to move their car in that situation,” Carly said.

She said that at the time the fine was imposed, she was in advanced stages of labor or about to give birth.

Revenue NSW subsequently left the pair a voicemail apologizing before withdrawing the fine, but reportedly only after the story received media attention.
