Does Gen V’s timeline tell us anything about The Boys season 4?

Oh, Generation Vthe best years of your life – oh wait, no, it’s college, where Generation V is set. (Ed. note: The best years have no definitive age. Dream big, kids.) And Godolkin University isn’t always a golden era. This is college life in the world of The boysafter all, where a Superman villain ripped a guy’s head off with a laser at the end of season 3. And that’s just the most recent something we know he did.

We don’t know exactly what Homelander has been up to since the events of Season 3, but Generation V is our best look yet at what’s going on elsewhere in the world of Vought nonsense (Voughnsense?). Here’s what we know about how Generation V handles its side-by-side timeline and what it tells us about season 4 of The boys.

When does Gen V take place in relation to the Boys?

Generation V is actually very clear about when this happens: current events begin on June 22, 2022, when Marie receives a response from Godolkin University about her application. Although there is no year on the calendar Marie has in her room, she has circled this day as a Wednesday, as it was in 2022. (But props to Godolkin’s doyenne , Indira Shetty being voted VNN’s Most Trusted Education Professional from 2023 already!)

By the time the school year begins (September 29, according to this linked recruiting video), it’s clearly After the events of season 3 of The boys: The book of the Depths, Deeper (“A memoir from the Deep”), was released and sold at auction at the university fundraiser. We hear rumors about Queen Maeve’s truthers around the world. Flipping through the television, we see commercials for Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) and her campaign for vice president, as well as a brief glimpse of a news segment on whether Homelander will be tried for the murder of a demonstrator – the latter being clearly places Marie’s college years at the end of The boys season 3. Plus, there’s the fact that The boys one social media account told us directly:

This places Marie’s admission date a few weeks after the premiere of Dawn of the Sevenreleased June 3 – probably in 2022.

So what does Generation V tell us about season 4 of The Boys?

Well, it’s a little more complicated. In the first three episodes, not much. In fact, as the news casts doubt on the fate of Homelander facing a legal fight, a PSA “from” Vought International on its YouTube page asks people to stand with Homelander during his next trial.

In-universe, 2022 also appears to be a presidential election year, a slight departure from our world. (Who knows; maybe the introduction of real supes changed election years at some point!)

Beyond that, it’s somewhat difficult to know what’s going on in the surrounding world. Everyone at God U is drinking the Kool-Aid, or at least swimming in it. The flashes we see from the outside world – at least so far – are filtered through the Vought industrial complex. But the trailers showed other people we can expect from both worlds: Congresswoman Neuman, presumably on the campaign trail, and Supe Tek Knight, who was mentioned several times in The boys but has not yet appeared in the series. It appears he will play a minor role in Generation Vand it should appear in The boys season 4 as well. This is just one connection – there are sure to be many more that we won’t know about until the next season of The boys firsts.
