Viktor Hovland scored a remarkable hole-in-one during the final day of practice ahead of the 2023 Ryder Cup.

The Norwegian, ranked number 4 in the world, is part of Team Europe for this weekend’s match at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome.

Before the action started on Friday, Hovland and his teammates completed a practice lap on the course.

And on the fifth hole, which is 376 yards long and a par 4, the Norwegian hit a thunderous tee shot that went all the way in.

Although it was just a drill, this would have earned the 25-year-old an Albatross, which is the equivalent of three under.

After hitting his tee shot, Hovland stayed focused on the ball before throwing his club away when he realized it had gone in.

The Norwegian was then mobbed by his teammates as the watching crowd erupted in wild celebration.

As he approached the green, Hovland grabbed the ball from the hole and threw it into the crowd as he received a standing ovation.

Although a relatively short par 4 at 376 yards, it was still a sensational shot from Hovland, although the effort in training led to fans joking that he had achieved the feat on the ‘wrong day’.

He hopes to improve his Ryder Cup record this year in his second appearance in the competition.

In 2021, during Europe’s heavy 19-9 defeat, Hovland took just one point, halved two and lost three of his five matches.
