Aaron Rodgers says Jets offense ‘needs to grow up’ as frustrations in New York reach dangerous levels amid repeated abysmal performances

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has issued stern advice to both his teammates and fans as frustrations mount after several poor offensive plays.

Rodgers made his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” when he said he wasn’t a fan of the “little side conversations” that took place during the 15-10 loss to the New England Patriots and said his teammates had to “grow up.” ‘

“I think we have to keep our balance a little bit better across the board,” Rodgers said.

“Just offensively, we have to not let some of those things happen on the sidelines and be a little bit better and just be a little bit better competitors.

“There’s too many little side conversations, and we just have to kind of grow up with the offense and lock in and do our job and not point fingers at each other — and that’s everybody. Don’t point fingers at the coaching staff, don’t point fingers at each other. Just get back to work and get the job done.”

WR Garrett Wilson also had an animated conversation with quarterback Zach Wilson

Rodgers was largely referring to the animated sideline conversations with WR Garrett Wilson and RB Michael Carter.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback had to watch the game against New England from his home on Sunday as he took the first steps in healing from the torn Achilles tendon. He suffered just four plays in his Jets debut in Week 1.

New York pulled off a miraculous overtime win against the Buffalo Bills in that Week 1 game before dropping the next game after Zach Wilson came in as starter and the offense turned in putrid performances in both games.

“I feel like if I was there, some of those things wouldn’t happen,” said Rodgers, who underwent Achilles surgery on Sept. 13. I do not know.

“I’d like to think that’s possible, but it’s more the side issues that I don’t like and want us to stick together through the hard times.”

The hard times seemingly got worse very quickly when Jets legend and NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath went all out in expressing his displeasure with Wilson’s performance, as did the Jets’ key decision makers for staying true to the struggling third-year QB.

Wilson was benched twice last year by head coach Robert Saleh due to poor play, but Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas decided to come up with a plan to allow Wilson to back up Rodgers and learn from a of the game’s greats before being given the starting role again in the next match. Rodgers eventually retired.

After that plan was quickly changed following Rodger’s injury, the Jets opted not to bring in a veteran quarterback to challenge, if not replace, Wilson as the starter.

The Jets added journeyman Trevor Siemian to the team’s practice squad on Tuesday

Earlier on Tuesday, the Jets completed the signing of veteran journeyman Trevor Siemian to the practice squad, although he is far from considered a savior at the position due to his resume.

The 31-year-old Siemian has a career record of 13-17, with 42 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. His only seasons as a starter came in 2016 and 2017 with the Denver Broncos and has since been relieved of several backup roles.

Siemian was the Jets backup in 2019, filling in for then-QB Sam Darnold, who was dealing with mononucleosis but only lasted a quarter before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.

Before adding Siemian, the Jets were linked to several other QBs, including Colin Kaepernick, who recently sent a letter to the Jets asking for a chance to prove himself, made public by award-winning rapper J Cole.
