Met Police says it has received ‘a number of allegations of sexual assault in London and across the country’ in the wake of Channel 4’s Dispatches investigation into Russell Brand

Detectives from the Met Police have officially launched an investigation into Russell Brand after receiving a number of allegations of sex crimes from across the UK.

Following an investigation by Channel 4 Dispatches and The Sunday Times, the Met said it had received reports of incidents alleged to have taken place in London.

It also said it had received a number of allegations of sexual offenses elsewhere in the country and would investigate them. The violations are all non-recent. Brand strongly denies all allegations of wrongdoing.

Officers will provide specialist support to any women who have made allegations.

Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times have made a number of allegations which Brand denies

The investigation is being carried out by detectives from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime Command, led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Furphy.

Supt Furphy said: “We continue to encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim of a sexual offense, no matter how long ago, to contact us.

‘We understand that this may be a difficult step and I would like to reassure you that we have a team of specialist officers available to advise and support you.’

No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.
