Kidney transplant: Adelaide parents’ incredible sacrifice for their desperately ill daughters

Parents of two little girls are about to donate their kidneys in a remarkable act of sacrifice to save their lives.

Sisters Charlotte and Isabelle Baldock, aged 14 and 12, suffer from chronic conditions that they currently manage with a cocktail of more than 10 medications a day.

But for the schoolgirls, kidney transplants will be inevitable.

Luckily, their father Shane is a match for both of his daughters, while their mother Renee is a match for Isabelle.

“I think it was my genes that caused it in the first place, so if I can be a match and help them out, it definitely makes me feel better,” Shane shared. 9News.

Renee is preparing to donate her kidney to Isabelle within a year, as the younger sister’s kidney function has already declined by 18 percent.

“Once we get to 15 percent for Izzy, they will start planning the actual transplant, which is about a three-month plan,” Renee said.

Isabelle said she felt “nervous” but knew it was for a good reason.

“(I) look forward to seeing that day where she wonders why she feels so good,” Shane added.

There is no cure for chronic kidney disease.

The Baldock family is encouraging Australians to support next month’s fundraiser, which will raise money for Kidney Health Australia.
