Horrifying moment thrill-seekers are stuck upside down for half an hour when Wonderland’s lumberjack ride malfunctions
A shocking malfunction during a ride at Ontario’s famous Wonderland theme park left unsuspecting thrill-seekers suspended upside down in the air for more than half an hour.
The Lumberjack, a swinging axe ride at the thrilling amusement paradise in Vaughn, Ontario, came to a sudden halt in a terrifying blunder on Saturday around 10:30 p.m.
A chilling video clip taken by park visitor Jiashira Rivera showed the moment of the mistake as riders panicked while dangling dozens of feet in the air.
In a TikTok post that has since gone viral, Rivera revealed that it took more than half an hour for the beleaguered riders to finally return to solid ground.
I’m definitely not going to make this trip anytime soon!’ she wrote in the video’s caption.
“It was terrifying, thank God no one fell off,” Rivera later said Yahoo Canada via direct message.
“They kept telling everyone to clear the area. Workers came in wearing safety harnesses, climbed onto the machine and tried to reset it.”

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old passenger who was rescued from the ordeal explained how hanging upside down for long periods of time began to cause serious discomfort.
“Me and my friends all felt the same effects and I’m pretty sure it’s the same for everyone… There was so much blood rushing to my head,” he said, adding that it felt like he couldn’t breathe properly and his eyes felt heavy as blood pooled in his head.
“I was grateful that the workers there were able to get us down, but it was just crazy,” he said. “I wonder how long we could have died if we had been up there.”
A TikTok user who also experienced the terrifying ride shared his pain with a simple comment: “It hurt so much.”
With a touch of dark humor, one commentator invoked the chilling aura of the “Final Destination” film franchise.
“Final Destination vibes, hopefully all is well,” they wrote.
Grace Peacock, director of communications for Canada’s Wonderland, recounted the event, explaining that maintenance and rescue crews were deployed to resolve the problem and safely evacuate the ride.
“The park maintenance team responded quickly and the ride was canceled at 11:05 p.m.,” Peacock said in an email to Yahoo Canada.
“The guests have been unloaded safely.”
Peacock further revealed that before rejoining the park’s festivities, all riders underwent a thorough examination by the park’s first aid staff after two riders reported experiencing chest pain.
Fortunately, all riders were ultimately cleared by medical staff and required no further treatment.
The shocking event happened just weeks after a fairground ride in Belgium malfunctioned and violently threw riders from their seats, seriously injuring three.
The twisting ride at the Ducasse fair in the village of La Hestre, a suburb of Manage in southwestern Belgium, saw the seven riders launched from their seats as spectators heard screams of shock and panic.
Smoke and steam were seen coming from the ride just before seven people were thrown off
The fairgrounds will be allowed to remain open as the investigation into the tragedy unfolds
All seven people on the ride, who were conscious when emergency services treated them at the scene, were injured following the incident
Bruno Pozzoni, the mayor of Manage, said hours after the August incident that all seven people were injured.
Belgian news program RTL info reported that the youngest victim, a 10-year-old girl, was rushed to hospital in serious but stable condition after suffering multiple complex injuries.
‘She’s out of danger. “It’s polytrauma, she’s still being monitored, but she’s out of danger,” the mayor told the program.
‘One person remains in a serious condition, a young girl who has been hospitalized in Tivoli and is being followed up. Three of the victims have undergone surgery and are in the orthopedic service.
“One has been released and one person is in psychological distress and is being supported by psychologists in an attempt to reduce his trauma,” he added.
The mayor said the investigation into the incident is ongoing and added that the fairgrounds may remain open as the investigation continues.
‘The question was discussed in depth and in conversations with various specialists we felt that people should keep talking about it, not lock themselves at home and stay at the event.
‘This also allows us to meet them and refer them to our listening cell, as there were many witnesses present. Some of it was taken care of, but in the drama that unfolded, many moved away from the place and today we are trying to bring back all these witnesses who suffered psychological trauma,” Bruno added.
