Baldur’s Gate 3 players are struggling to do an evil playthrough
Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a wide range of player choices and branching paths that can create any number of different playthroughs, but some players feel guilty about their bad deeds.
About the game subredditplayers are discussing their experiences taking on the role of the villain in Larian Studios’ RPG, and judging by the number of comments and over 6,000 votes on the post, it seems like there are plenty who have the same morality issues.
“I just wanted to do a run where I mostly make bad decisions, like raiding the forest with the goblins,” said user LucioRoyal. ‘But everything is worthless. Killing Zevlor and Wyll along with all the other Tieflings was so gruesome. Then I met Karlach and she told me to fuck off. At the camp, seeing Gale about to leave and Shadowheart mindlessly drinking made me feel even worse.”
LucioRoyal added that they eventually quit their evil game in favor of another normal save file, saying that they never thought they would feel so sorry for characters in a video game.
The user is not alone either. The thread contains numerous comments from players that echo the same sentiment, with one player saying that even when playing as Origin character Astarion – the rogue vampire who usually approves of players’ bloody choices – their game is difficult.
“I’m doing a solo Astarion run on ATM and seeing all my former companions die horribly or disappear and presumably get a brain tumor really feels like a ‘worst timeline’ plot for Star Trek time travel or something ,” said user Gilradthegreat. “If my paragon Tav never left the nautiloid, this is the fucked up world we end up in in this alternate timeline.”
Another user said: “In my worst Timeline Durge playthrough, Astarion and I are Sword Coast’s newest nightmarish power couple. Everyone else is either dead or abandoned us because of my actions. It feels awful, but somehow way less worse than Astarion alone.”
“I tried to start one yesterday but it failed straight away because it made me sad,” said another player.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has over 17,000 alternate endings, according to Larian it’s amazing that it has such an incredible number of player choices. But for some, making these bad decisions just isn’t for them.
Elsewhere, patch 3 is now live and players can finally change their character’s appearance thanks to the addition of the Magic Mirror.
