A young boy who died with his brother in the back of a car driven by their uncle filmed the vehicle reportedly street racing moments before the fatal crash.

Jimmy Martin Brito, 33, reportedly lost control and crashed his Subaru WRX while speeding along Grand Parade in Monterey, south Sydney, on August 25.

His nephews Peter, nine, and Xavier Abreu, 10, died at the scene, while a nine-year-old girl in the front seat escaped with minor injuries and Brito was hospitalized.

It has now emerged that harrowing footage found on a mobile phone in the wreckage has helped police track down the alleged driver of another vehicle allegedly involved in the street race.

That driver, Adam Yurun, 24, and his passenger Raquel Borg, 24, were both arrested last week and charged for their alleged roles in the fatal crash, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Police allege that Yurun and Borg witnessed the crash but fled the scene and did not speak to police until they were arrested a month later.

A statement of facts from police revealed that the alleged street race started shortly after 9.30pm when Brito and Yurun met at ‘The Loop’ in La Perouse.

CCTV footage of the 19km journey from the start of the alleged race to the crash site shows Brito’s Subaru and Yurun’s Audi overtaking each other at speeds of up to 130km/h.

“A video filmed in the Subaru shows… As both vehicles exit the Sydney Airport Tunnel… you can hear the children in the Subaru telling the driver, Jimmy Martin Brito, which lane to take,” the statement of facts said .

It adds: ‘The Subaru is overtaking the Audi. The distinct sound of the Subaru revving its engine is audible.

“The Audi continues in lane one and overtakes the Subaru… the Subaru immediately accelerates to a point where the fronts of the vehicles become level.”

But police allege that while trying to make a right turn, Brito climbed a curb and crashed into a tree, killing his two cousins ​​instantly.

Police prosecutors said court experts estimated the vehicle was traveling at least 85 mph (136 km/h) at the time of the crash.

Brito, who has been charged with five offenses over the incident, was refused bail when he appeared at Sutherland Local Court via video link on September 7.

Yurun has reportedly been charged with two counts of aggravated dangerous driving causing death, organizing and promoting inter-vehicle racing and two counts of failing to stop and render aid after a collision causing death. he will be in court again on November 30.

Borg, his female passenger, has been charged with concealing a serious criminal offence. She will appear in court on October 17.
