Abbie Chatfield sparks backlash for refusing to say the word ‘female’ and instead using the gender-inclusive term ‘assigned female at birth’

Abbie Chatfield has been criticized online for using gender-inclusive language.

The reality star, 27, raised eyebrows this week when she called women “AFAB,” which means “assigned female at birth.”

Abbie used the term this week when she was hospitalized after a urinary tract infection (UTI) spread to her kidneys.

In a lengthy post describing her medical issues, Abbie wrote: “As AFAB people, we tend to minimize our pain. Most of the time.’

She also said that “AFAB people are just used to constant pain,” referring to the medical problems many women face.

While Chatfield’s fans were most likely happy with her decision to use progressive, gender-inclusive language to describe women, some naysayers criticized the star online.

‘AFAB! Who made that up? Did the urinary tract infection also affect her brain?’ one raged.

Another wrote: ‘Say women FFS, stop throwing the rest of us under a bus you damn millennials.’

Abbie is known for her outspoken political views and identifies as a feminist.

Forte Magazine previously called her a “feminist hero,” while the Sydney Morning Herald praised the former Bachelor star for building a “feminist empire.”

“Everyone assumes influencers are idiots with nothing to say, so when I started talking about feminism, the US elections, my abortion or my vibrator, people paid attention,” she told the Herald last year.

Abbie had previously signed a book deal with Affirm Press to write a feminist manifesto titled So Let’s Unpack That (SLUT), but she later abandoned the deal after becoming bored at a writers’ retreat.

“I tried to write, I couldn’t write anything,” she admitted in March.

‘I can’t do this, I’m so bored here. There is no Hayu. There are no (real) housewives,” she added, before revealing that she had left her writers’ retreat two days earlier.
