Residents in Chicago’s ritzy northern suburbs plagued by robberies: Cops investigated rash of NINE incidents where armed thieves broke into homes within a one-hour span

Residents of an upscale Chicago suburb are plagued by robberies, with police investigating nine cases of armed robberies in an hour.

Chicago police are investigating a spate of armed robberies that occurred early Thursday morning in the city’s North Side neighborhoods.

Police say the victims were walking during the argument and were attacked by four to six suspects.

The victims in the attack ranged in age from 19 to 78 years old, with the oldest victim since being released from the hospital.

The 78-year-old man had been walking to his car when six men jumped out of a dark-colored sedan and ambushed, beat and robbed him.

The Windy City is currently experiencing rampant crime problems that have caused businesses to leave the city, with 800 homicides in 2021 alone.

Shocking footage shows a 78-year-old man being beaten and robbed in the chic Chicago neighborhood. The 78-year-old man had been walking to his car when six men jumped out of a dark-colored sedan and ambushed, beat and robbed him.

Neighbor Francisca Nivadura said: 'We are scared. (It's) very scary.' 'I didn't hear anything, it's very quiet. Until this morning when I said "Oh my God"'

Footage of the attack shows the sedan coming to a stop just as the elderly man walks behind it.

The men in the car then run to the back and chase him down, knocking him to the ground.

According to Chicago police, the man complied with his property requirements, but was still attacked.

Local woman Kate Ogilvie shared NBC Chicago: ‘The neighbors are great, I think everyone looks out for each other very well, but obviously we need more help.

‘I’m shocked and saddened, I can’t believe it was in our area. It’s really scary, it makes me feel uncomfortable.’

Neighbor Francisca Nivadura also told the outlet, “We are scared. (It’s) very scary.’

‘I didn’t hear anything, it’s very quiet. Until this morning when I said, “Oh my God.”‘

Homes in the North Side neighborhood have a median sales price of $590,000, with the median household income being $148,991 according to point2 houses.

Detectives are investigating and police cannot say whether the robberies are related. No one is in custody.

Recent crime figures up to last week show that motor vehicle theft and theft are sky high.

Currently, there are 14,886 reports of theft in the city, with another 21,160 cases of car theft this year alone.

The number of car thefts has already increased by 86% compared to last year, when there were 11,403 cases that year.

Despite rising crime rates, newly appointed Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed mansion taxes on the sale of homes over $1 million.

His predecessor Lori Lightfoot’s tenure was marked by criticism over her handling of crime in the city, which has risen significantly. The city recorded 800 murders in 2021, the highest number in 25 years.

The newly elected mayor wants to implement a tax increase to combat homelessness in the city.

Johnson believes that people who own properties worth $1 million in the US’s third-largest city “are rich, and should pay up when they sell those houses.”

Additionally, 13,000 migrants have arrived in Chicago since August 2022, and the increase is expected to cost taxpayers $302 million by the end of the year.

Images posted earlier this year by photojournalist Rebecca Brannon showed dozens of migrants sitting on and around mattresses in a Chicago police station.

Brannon reported that many of the migrants had been sleeping and eating on the floors, which had disrupted daily police activities.

After Johnson was elected in May, businesses vowed to leave the windy city because of the extra taxes he promised.

Rising crime had already forced companies such as Boeing and Caterpillar to move their headquarters elsewhere under his predecessor’s administration.

Last September, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinksi said the fast-food giant was facing challenges recruiting workers for its Chicago headquarters.

Tyson Foods announced it would move all of its corporate teams to its headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas.
