Aussie cricket insider lifts the lid on how Nathan Lyon kept his new baby a secret for so long – and drops a huge hint about whether the new arrival is a girl or a boy
EXCLUSIVE
A source close to the Australian cricket team has revealed that superstar spin bowler Nathan Lyon never told his teammates and partners to keep his baby a secret before photos of him pushing the newborn in a stroller were exclusively revealed by Daily Mail Australia.
Despite there being no indication that Nathan Lyon and his wife Emma were expecting a child, the famous bowler was spotted walking with the newcomer in western Sydney last week, with a well-placed source confirming that the pair had a newborn had welcomed.
Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, the sports insider revealed that the players’ wives and girlfriends were never sworn to secrecy about the couple’s pregnancy.
“Everyone knew, it wasn’t a secret – we weren’t under any confidentiality obligation, it just wasn’t anyone else’s news to divulge,” the source said.
While remaining tight-lipped about specific details, the insider accidentally let slip the gender of the couple’s newborn.
Lyon was spotted pushing his new baby in a stroller near his western Sydney home earlier this month, while taking his Weimaraner dog Gus for some exercise.
The last time Lyon’s wife Emma (pictured together) was photographed outdoors in May, she was wearing an overcoat that would have covered up any signs of pregnancy.
“I don’t know his name, sorry,” they said.
Lyon, 35, and Emma, 33, are said to be keeping their son’s name a closely guarded secret.
“They choose not to live a public life and if they choose to keep their pregnancy a secret, that’s their business,” the source said.
The couple reportedly welcomed their first child together earlier this month.
In Daily Mail Australia’s exclusive photos, the bowler was captured wearing his signature baseball hat and carrying a stroller designed for newborns near his home in Sydney’s west on September 11.
When asked if the child in the stroller was his, Lyon tellingly replied “no comment” and declined to discuss further.
In another clue that the couple had just welcomed a baby, there was a note at the entrance to their home that read “Please don’t ring the doorbell” – a common request from parents who don’t want their baby to wake up.
In the weeks since the photos emerged, there has been no official announcement from the couple or their management.
Emma has been expertly hiding her growing baby bump in recent months with a series of clever styling tricks.
She was last photographed by the paparazzi in May, wearing an overcoat that would have covered any signs of a growing baby bump.

Emma and Nathan got married last year after keeping their engagement a secret for months
The couple was fiercely private from the start, and as their relationship developed into an engagement, they tried to keep their July 2022 wedding out of the press.
“They choose not to share that information about their pregnancy with the public or media – so it’s not anyone else’s place to announce their news for them,” the source revealed.
Their relationship began under scandalous circumstances when they were caught kissing in Perth in late 2017 while Nathan was still with his ex Mel, with whom he shares two daughters.
Mel detailed their heartbreaking split in a blog post in March 2018.
The then-single mother said her pain was “real and deep” and recounted nights spent crying in bed with her children.
‘I didn’t ask for this, this wasn’t how my life was supposed to be. He was mine forever, he was my whole world,” she wrote.

Lyon and Emma bought their Sydney home together in 2020. Rumors started circulating that their engagement took place last year.
This was later confirmed when Emma was spotted with a hefty engagement ring on her finger during the fourth Test against India at the Gabba in 2021, while she also posted on Instagram about her search for a wedding dress.
Their couple stepped out in style at the Australian Cricket Awards in January, with Emma donning a stunning low-cut sparkling white dress, while Lyon donned a tuxedo.
