WWE announce they will return to Australia for the first time in SIX years for Elimination Chamber in 2024, with Perth’s 65,000 seater Optus Stadium to play host to the event

  • WWE will travel to Australia for the first time since 2018 in February next year
  • The event will likely be officiated by women’s world champion Rhea Ripley
  • Ripley is one of the few Australian wrestlers and praised the ‘dream come true’

WWE has announced that they will return to Australia for the Premium Live Event Elimination Chamber this February for the first time in almost six years.

Calls for the company to return Down Under have increased in recent times, with Australian star Grayson Waller leading the charge during his appearance at WWE’s Money in the Bank event in London earlier this year.

Perth’s Optus Stadium will host the event on February 24 next year, and with a capacity of 65,000 people, a large crowd is expected for the event.

While it is unclear which specific stars will be coming to the country for the event, it will likely be headlined by Adelaide native Rhea Ripley.

Ripley debuted as a main roster member in WWE in 2021 and has since risen to fame, enjoying individual and tag team title reigns and remaining a member of the villainous faction The Judgment Day.

Also likely to be on the show is Waller, who is from Sydney and was called up to the main squad earlier this year.

Other Australian stars in the company include Bronson Reed, Indi Hartwell and Emma.

The Elimination Chamber traditionally sees matches involving six competitors or teams, two of which start in the ring with four more locked in pods around it.

At regular intervals, another pod will open, with that participant participating in the competition until all six have been introduced.

The performers are eliminated one by one and the winner is the last one standing at the end of the competition, often resulting in them being crowned champions, no matter what title is at stake.

The initial assumption is that Ripley will defend her title in an Elimination Chamber match in her home country.

Commenting on the news, WWE Senior Vice President Chris Legentil said: “Perth is the perfect location for a major WWE Premium Live Event in Australia, following a series of record-breaking WWE events in iconic international destinations.

“With a week of WWE events and experiences, we hope to leave a lasting memory for Western Australia and the entire WWE Universe.

Ripley himself added: “I am extremely proud to represent Australia every time I step into a WWE ring and to bring a Premium Live Event to Perth is a dream come true.

“Get ready for Australia because Mami (Ripley’s nickname in WWE) is coming home.”
