Meg Ryan was all smiles as she spent her Wednesday evening with a friend in New York City.

The 61-year-old actress was spotted in New York City’s Soho neighborhood during an outing with a friend.

The outing comes just days after it was announced that her first film in eight years – What Happens Later – was postponed to get out of the way of Taylor Swift’s concert film.

Ryan stepped out in an army green dress that fell to her calves, with a black bag slung over her shoulder

She dressed up with a beaded bracelet and silver ring for the Soho outing on Wednesday evening.

The film – which Ryan also co-wrote, an adaptation of Steven Deitz’s 2008 play Shooting Star – follows her character Willa and her ex Bill (David Duchovny).

They haven’t seen each other in years, when they both get snowed in at an airport at night.

The film was originally set to hit theaters on October 13 from indie distributor Bleecker Street, but that changed earlier this month.

What Happens Later was one of several films whose release was pushed back to make way for the concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which was set for release on October 13.

Ryan’s new film will now be released on November 3, the final weekend of The Eras Tour in cinemas.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has already raked in a whopping $37 million in advance sales, with box office analysts predicting an opening weekend of more than $70 million.

Ryan recently opened up in a new interview about her return to the romantic comedy genre with her film What Happens Later Carol Burnett for Interview magazine.

β€œReally, the easiest part was acting in it,” she said. “I want to direct again so I can sit in the chair because I’m sure I’ve missed a lot of things.”

The 61-year-old, who stars opposite David Duchovny in What Happens Later, commented: “I hadn’t done a role in a long time, but it was fun with David.”

She added: β€œA lot of it was done in two shots. I’m proud of that. I arranged everything in advance so that once we got there, it was just David and I trying to tell the truth.”

Meg explained that the process of putting the film together was “completely deliberate” – and was accomplished on a budget of $3 million.

‘We had to do it very quickly. A lot of those extras weren’t even ours, they were real people,” Meg revealed. β€œWe went back to post and made the same palette for everyone. There are, thank goodness, a lot of things you can do digitally now.”

Meg’s most recently released film was Ithaca, in which she starred opposite Tom Hanks and also marked her feature directorial debut.

In a new trailer for What Happens Now, Meg’s character Wilhelmina and David’s character William happen to meet at an airport.

The last film Ryan starred in also happened to be her first film as a director, 2015’s Ithaca, a coming-of-age story set in 1942 during World War II.

She also starred in that film alongside her son Jack Quaid, Alex Neustadter as the 14-year-old telegram messenger who comes of age, and Tom Hanks as her on-screen husband.

Ithaca marked Ryan and Hanks’ fourth film together after Joe Vs. the Volcano, 1993’s Sleepless in Seattle and 1998’s You’ve Got Mail.

It’s unclear if she has another directorial project planned at this time, although that may be announced closer to the release of What Happens Later.
