Kate Lawler hits out at body shamers who claim star ‘triggered anorexics’, saying there’s a ‘double standard’ on social media

Kate Lawler has hit back at body shamers after the star was cruelly targeted online in light of a series of Instagram snaps.

The 43-year-old was accused of “triggering anorexia” and “serious calorie deficit” on the social media platform after posting a holiday selfie.

Yet the former Big Brother winner turned radio presenter responded to the comments by explaining that she believes there is a “double standard” on social media, where plus-size women are praised for putting on value their curves, but the thinnest ones are trolled.

She said The sun: “If someone on Instagram shows off their curves and grabs their rolls, it’s all, ‘Go girl, good job!’ »

“They are celebrated, called real women. Well, why can’t a real woman be a healthy size 8? It’s crazy.’

Fighting back: Kate Lawler, 43, hit back at body shamers by claiming the star had ‘triggered anorexics’, claiming there was a ‘double standard’ on social media in an interview with The Sun.

Much to Kate’s surprise, some followers even compared her physique to that of fellow Big Brother contestant Nikki Grahame, who died in 2021 at the age of 38, after a lifelong battle with anorexia.

“I honestly couldn’t believe it. Comparing myself to her is outrageous and so insensitive to Nikki’s family.

Kate said she is currently a size eight and is 5ft 6ins tall, weighs 8st 4lbs and has a BMI of 19.2.

Her BMI is therefore within the ideal range, as the NHS explains that a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9.

Even though the star looks slim, she assured that this is due to a fast metabolism and that she doesn’t exercise outside of walking her dogs.

Earlier this month, Kate responded to skinny insulters with a defiant snap after being criticized for her weight as she on a road trip through Europe with her husband Martin Bojtos and their six-month-old daughter Noa.

Kate did her own take on her critics, sharing a snapshot of her cream tea and sandwiches she enjoyed the day before.

Highlighting the scones and treats she had consumed, Kate wrote: “Things I ate this morning (melt face, middle finger emoji).”

The star revealed that she rarely gives much thought to her weight so she was shocked after seeing the reaction her post received and couldn’t believe people were accusing her of triggering anorexia.

She said: “Someone asked, ‘What message are you trying to send to young girls?’ » That really pissed me off.

“I wasn’t sending a message, I just posted a selfie. And if I sent a message to young girls, it would be to eat a healthy diet, treat yourself well and exercise.

Kate’s husband also defended the star while responding to backlash from trolls.

He wrote in the comments section of his wife’s post: “I love that people worry about my wife’s weight when I cook for her,” followed by a laughing emoji.

“Guys, relax, this is the camera angle. Put the phone down and step outside for a bit.

Kate admitted that she doesn’t want to respond to trolls and wants to focus on those in her Instagram fan base who are positive and caring.
