Israel’s ambassador is DETAINED by security at the UN General Assembly after he protested Iranian President Raisi’s speech by holding up a picture of Mahsa Amini – who was murdered by Islamic nation’s police for not wearing a hijab

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations was briefly detained by security on Tuesday for protesting during the Iranian president’s speech.

Gilad Erdan held up a photo of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman who was killed in the custody of Tehran’s morality police after being arrested for not sufficiently covering her hair.

Erdan silently walked towards the stage, holding the sign above his head. It said: “Iranian women deserve freedom now!” »

Ebrahim Raisi, the Iranian president, did not appear to notice Erdan, who then left the room and was subsequently detained by UN security.

Erdan later tweeted that the UN was guilty of “moral distortions” for giving a platform to Raisi, who has presided over a brutal crackdown on protests in his own country.

Erdan, ambassador since 2020, accused the UN of having deployed the red tank “for murderers and anti-Semites”.

“When Iranian President Raisi, the “Butcher of Tehran,” began his speech, I held up a photo of Mahsa Amini, the innocent Iranian woman who was brutally murdered by the regime a year ago for not wearing “properly” the hijab. Erdan tweeted.

“Meanwhile, in front of the UN, hundreds of Iranians demonstrated, begging for help from the international community. I will never stop fighting for the truth and I will always denounce the moral distortions of the UN.

“Those who roll out the red carpet for murderers and anti-Semites must be held accountable for their actions!”

Photos obtained by Fox News showed him being escorted by UN security after leaving the room.

“I left my speech to make clear that the State of Israel stands with the Iranian people,” Erdan said, according to a statement sent to Reuters by the Israeli mission to the United Nations.

Erdan had already filmed a video in front of a shrine dedicated to victims of the Iranian regime’s repression.

Tuesday marked the first anniversary of Iran’s national uprisings that began last September, following Amini’s death.

He said Israel stood in solidarity with those persecuted by Tehran’s “ruthless” government, and again criticized the UN for allowing Raisi to speak out.

“The world must wake up and listen to the voices of innocent Iranians!” The Ayatollah regime must be held responsible for its crimes and pay the price!’ he wrote about X.

“The people of Israel stand with the people of Iran.”

Raisi, in a provocative speech, told the assembled world leaders that his country would not retreat from its “obvious right to the peaceful use of nuclear technology”, and urged the United States to return to the nuclear deal from 2015.

He reiterated that a nuclear arsenal had “no place” in Iranian military doctrine.

Raisi also urged the United States to return to the nuclear deal by demonstrating goodwill through a “confidence-building policy.”

In 2018, US President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the deal and imposed new sanctions.

The remarks came a day after Iran and the United States released prisoners from both sides who had been in jail for years.

The United States also allowed Iran access to nearly $6 billion in frozen assets. The Americans returned home on Tuesday.
