Leonardo DiCaprio is backing the vegan sneaker brand loved by Hollywood A-listers and royalty – with pairs selling for an eye-watering £200

Climate activist Leonardo DiCaprio has invested his money in vegan shoe brand LØCI, MailOnline has learned.

The British label is popular among its fellow A-listers and royalty, including Ben Affleck, Eva Longoria, Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie.

Leo first backed the company in October last year, saying at the time: ‘I am proud to be an investor in LØCI, a brand committed to minimizing environmental impact and focused on creating cruelty-free, ethical footwear.’

LØCI sneakers come in countless colors and designs, but are not cheap and cost an average of €200 per pair.

The brand boasts ‘ethical fashion without sacrificing style’ and uses ‘premium recycled ocean and land plastic’, which was undoubtedly a draw for climate activist Leo.

100% vegan, cruelty-free and unisex, LØCI sneakers are handmade in Porto, Portugal, using recycled ocean plastic, and renewable and biodegradable materials where possible to deliver a stylish, eco-conscious sneaker .

Production is scaled up or down in response to demands to manage environmental impact. 10% of online profits on each pair purchased are donated to charities focused on protecting wildlife.

James Blunt’s aristocratic wife Sofia also designed a range for the label which benefited the Blue Marine Foundation.

Earlier this year, Titanic star Leo faced accusations of eco-hypocrisy when he was spotted leaving Porto Cervo, Sardinia, via a private airport.

The actor, a well-known climate activist, boarded a plane at Olbia Private Airport, which has its own private jet terminal for wealthy travelers.

It comes as he has spent the past few months traveling between the US and cities such as London, Milan and Paris, covering more than 12,000 miles.

Leo has previously come under fire for his use of gas-guzzling private jets.

In 2016, he was ridiculed while traveling 8,000 miles by private jet from Europe to New York City to accept an award for his environmental activism.

CO2 emissions from private jets vary, but by some accounts are more than 37 times higher than those from commercial aircraft.

It comes after the actor was at the center of a controversy – following his public kiss with Italian model Vittoria Ceretti, 25, in Ibiza earlier this month.

And the Hollywood star has received some criticism on Twitter for dating yet another younger model.

The Revenant sensation was spotted in a passionate clinch with his new flame Vittoria during a recent visit to Hi Ibiza nightclub on the Spanish party island.

He has a reputation for only dating women aged 25 or younger and tends to break up with them after they reach the milestone – as he did with his last serious girlfriend Camila Morrone, now 26.

After the photos with Vittoria emerged, many were quick to ridicule him for not being a long-term relationship as she turns 26 next June.

One wrote: “She’ll be gone before this tweet is done,” while another joked: “Another year and he won’t look at her again.”

Leonardo and Vittoria, who have a 23-year age difference, were seen gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes before locking lips as they partied at the venue until 4.30am.
