Ex-NFL star Sergio Brown who played for the Patriots and Colts is missing after his 73-year-old mom was found dead by homicide in an Illinois creek

A former NFL star is missing after police discovered his 73-year-old mother was found dead and abandoned in an Illinois creek.

On Saturday, Maywood police were informed by family members that they could not locate or make contact with Myrtle Brown, 73, and her son Sergio Brown, 35.

Following the report, a search for missing persons was launched. Myrtle Brown’s body was found Saturday in a creek near her home. She was the victim of an assault and her death was ruled a homicide, officials ruled.

Now police are desperate to find the NFL star who played for seven seasons and details about what happened to him and his mother.

‘I won’t wait another hour. Please share! If you see them or any of them, please let me know or let the Maywood Police Department know,” Nick Brown, son of Myrtle and brother of Sergio, said in a social media post.

Nick has shared the same post on Facebook twice more since the family was initially reported missing.

Myrtle Brown’s sister, Sheila Simmons, told WGN that the last time she spoke to her sister was on Thursday, September 14.

It wasn’t until around 3 a.m. Saturday morning that Simmons got the call that her sister and cousin were missing. Simmons soon showed up at the home the two shared and thought things were “out of the ordinary.”

“We’re going to find out what happened because it’s not normal for my sister not to answer her phone, not respond to text messages. People have been contacting her since Friday. No one could reach her. Now I got the call this morning that she was missing, so I immediately came here and found out that my sister is dead,” Simmons told WGN TV News.

Simmons reportedly searched the creek behind the house with police when she arrived but found nothing.

It wasn’t until later, when she and other family members started searching again, that they found Myrtle’s body in the Addison Creek Reservoir outside Chicago.

Following an examination of the body on Sunday, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death a homicide after concluding she suffered assault-related injuries.

Maywood police are still looking for Sergio, who played for five different NFL teams before retiring in 2016.

Members of the family told WGN TV News that they have not heard a word from Sergio.

Sergio played for the University of Notre Dame before moving on and pursuing his career in the NFL. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots as a safety in 2010.

When he parted ways with the team in 2012, he moved on to play for the Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills.

Maywood Police are currently trying to locate Sergio and ask if anyone has seen him, to contact them immediately at their investigative or anonymous tip line phone numbers.

MailOnline.com contacted Maywood police and officials did not respond to this report in a timely manner.

Other social media users have shared Sergio’s missing person poster in an attempt to find him. He was last seen with his mother on August 25 when they left their home to go to a family reunion in Mississippi where they never showed up.
