Mason Greenwood will need to be patient before making his Getafe debut, says manager Jose Bordalas.
The 21-year-old has not had the chance to play since making his controversial move from Manchester United and has not played at all since January 2022.
United sent him to LaLiga after agreeing he would ‘continue his career away from Old Trafford’ following their review of the striker after charges against him were dropped, including attempted rape.
Bordalas confirmed that Greenwood will need an ‘adjustment period’ ahead of their league match against Osasuna on Sunday, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
He said: ‘It’s a big hope and there’s a big anticipation to see him. He’s been out of competition for a year and a half, unemployed, and he’s in that period of adjustment and catching up with his teammates.

‘We have to be patient and take care of him. The day will tell us when he can compete. You have to have patience.
‘We know the potential and the level he has. I don’t like to talk on an individual level, but the teammates help him a lot.
‘The dressing room, like the rest of the new players, welcomed him with open arms and everyone felt the warmth of the group.’
Despite the cloud hanging over him, Greenwood was welcomed to Getafe, seemingly without much discussion about the allegations leveled against him, nor the audio or video footage.
Charges of attempted rape and assault were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February, but United said he would leave the club following an internal investigation.

Some, as Mail Sport’s Mike Keegan noted in his special report from the city, are calling the extent of his welcome there ‘Masonmania’.
The club raved about the striker on social media, set up an English-language Twitter account in July and have sold more shirts with his name on them than any player in their history.
It is in stark contrast to the criticism and outrage he is facing from football supporters in England, with United fans protesting in August when it looked like he would be reinstated into the squad.
