Desiigner’s attorney says rapper will NOT be ‘forced’ to register as sex offender as part of sentencing for masturbating on plane in front of flight attendants… calls initial reports ‘untrue’

Desiigner’s attorney, Ryan Garry, has revealed that the Panda rapper will not be “forced” to register as a sex offender following his sentence for masturbating on a Delta Airlines flight in April.

Initially reports claimed that the 26-year-old artist would have to register as a sex offender for indecent exposure, but Garry told People in an article published Friday that such reports were untrue and “wrong.”

“Regarding the issue of Mr. Selby’s registration as a sex offender, many news media have incorrectly stated that he must register as a sine qua non of his probation. They are wrong,” his lawyer said.

He continued, “Since this was a federal crime, the judgment states that if the State of California or any other government entity requires Mr. Selby to register as a sex offender, he must do so.”

“However, the parties to this case, after extensive investigation and consultation with attorneys in California, have reached the legal conclusion that this misdemeanor conviction will not result in Mr. Selby being required to register as a sex offender.”

Previous reports claimed that the rapper was ordered by a federal court to register as a sex offender after admitting to exposing himself and masturbating during a flight last April.

He had been sentenced to up to 90 days in jail in connection with his conviction. As a result of his guilty plea Thursday, he will be prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm and will be required to undergo a drug test.

The Timmy Turner artist was on a Delta flight from Tokyo to Minneapolis on April 17 when the incident occurred, the newspaper said.

Desiigner’s attorney Ryan Garry said in court filings that the Grammy-nominated artist was dealing with a number of stressors leading up to the incident, the Star Tribune reported.

Garry told the court that the Brooklyn, New York, resident was dealing with “dehydration, exhaustion from the music tour and travel, the marijuana he took and the medications he received from (a) hospital in Thailand.”

The lawyer said all factors “contributed in some way to the poor decisions Mr. Selby made on that plane.”

Prosecutors said that while they took into account the artist’s admitted problems with substance abuse and mental health (Desiigner checked into a mental health facility after the incident), they said punitive measures in the case were essential because there were victims affected.

Desiigner’s conduct on board the flight “created real-world negative consequences for the flight attendants who witnessed his actions in the workplace where they were required to be kept safe,” prosecutors said.

Prosecutors noted that the music artist had a history of bad behavior on flights, citing a 2018 incident with Scandinavian airlines that led to him being banned from flying with the airline for a year after he behaved “threateningly towards the crew’. ‘

Desiigner initially exposed himself about 60 to 90 minutes after takeoff while sitting in first class, according to a legal complaint reviewed by the AP.

According to the complaint, he initially covered up after exposing himself, but a few flight attendants saw him playing with himself again and told him to stop, which he did.

At that point, the chief flight attendant informed the music artist that he would be taken into custody due to his behavior.

Shortly afterwards, Desiigner was seen a third time with his genitals exposed, after which he was taken to the back of the plane.

At one point, while changing seats, Desiigner dropped a container of lubricant — Vaseline — in the aisle, according to the complaint: TMZ Previously reported.
