Sacré bleu! French Senate hopeful admits editing her picture for campaign poster and ‘misleading’ voters… but says it is within her rights to have a ‘beautiful photo’
Sacred blue! French Senate hopeful admits doctoring her photo for campaign poster and ‘misleading’ voters, but says it’s within her rights to have a ‘nice photo’
- Juliette de Causans used heavily edited photos in her campaign material
- The candidate was accused of misleading voters when unedited photos emerged
A French politician has been accused of ‘misleading’ voters after using heavily enhanced photos of herself in a campaign poster.
The senatorial candidate is depicted with a radiant tan and straight white teeth, made from materials from the French party ‘Europe Écologie Égalité’.
A poster calling on voters to support senatorial candidate Juliette de Causans features a photo of a glamorous-looking woman who looks like she is in her twenties.
However, voters have complained that they were misled after it emerged that the photo on the poster had been heavily edited to improve the candidate’s appearance.
An unedited version of the photo instead showed the candidate looking older, with less radiant tan and slightly less straight teeth. In fact, the two people seem completely different when compared side by side.
A heavily edited photo of Juliette de Causans appeared on a campaign poster before a second unedited photo of the candidate appeared
Ms de Causans later turned out to be in her forties when an unedited photo of the candidate surfaced.
She later admitted that she had enhanced the photos, while claiming that the edited photos would help boost her business, according to The Telegraph.
The senatorial candidate who ran for the small centrist Europe Écologie Égalité, which was formed by breakaway supporters of President Macron, also claimed that it is within her right to have a “nice photo.”
Ms de Causans first entered politics in 2021, having previously worked as a teacher before running to become an MP in the Ardennes.
Candidates running for Europe Écologie Égalité were found to have used edited photos in their campaign materials
In the 2022 elections, Ms de Causans won only 4.28 percent of the vote in the mountainous region.
Potential voters were quick to condemn Ms de Causans for the misleading photos, as one Instagram user branded them as ‘pathetic’.
‘You mislead voters with your campaign photo. It’s sad, I won’t vote for you anymore. Back to the Ardennes, we deserve better,” said the Instagram user.
Candidates who also stood for Europe Écologie Égalité also appeared to have used heavily edited photos in the campaign material.
Heavily edited versions of the photos showed the candidate with clear skin, straighter teeth and silky hair.
