Footy star Caleb Poulter hates barbecue sauce. So what happens when his influencer girlfriend tricks him into eating it by the spoonful?

You have to be wary if your girlfriend is a beloved social media influencer, as AFL star Caleb Poulter recently found out the hard way in a joke that left him gagging.

The 20-year-old earned a new lease on life with the Western Bulldogs this season after being delisted from Collingwood after two years and is enjoying life with long-term partner Sam Guggenheimer.

The Melbourne-based influencer has amassed a massive audience of nearly 200,000 followers on TikTok with nearly 15 million comments on her light-hearted and relatable content.

Now she has her boyfriend in check – with the AFL star gloriously stitched up.

Guggenheimer decided to borrow an idea from MAF star Evelyn Ellis, who fooled her boyfriend Duncan into thinking they had earned a $50,000 ketchup deal.

The catch was that they had to film the promotional video that same day, which led to hilarious results when Duncan tried to choke down the brand’s smoky barbecue sauce.

Thus, convincing Poulter that they had earned a $50,000 sponsorship deal with Australian brand MasterFoods, they broke out the barbecue sauce – which Poulter is not a fan of.

Despite his dislike of the product, Poulter properly fixed his hair and prepared to film the video for his partner.

It took Coulter three tries to keep the barbecue sauce in his mouth as he continued to spit it out into the sink.

“Should I pretend to like it,” Poulter asked?

“Yes, I said you’re a little obsessed with barbecuing,” she replied.

“If you have to spit it out, I’ll edit it.”

“Can I spit it out every time?” asked a clearly uncomfortable Coulter.

“No, at least try to swallow it once,” she replied to his heavy disappointment.

“Swallow it?” he asked incredulously.

“Honey, it’s $50,000,” Guggenheimer reminded him.

And so the prank began – with hilarious results.

Just getting Poulter to admit the barbecue sauce had the couple laughing out loud several times before he even tried it.

However, the Bulldogs star remained confident when he was told he now had to eat a whole tablespoon without making a face.

“I’ll do it with ease,” he declared.

But as soon as the spoon entered his mouth, Poulter gagged into the sink.

‘I’m really going to throw up, you know that. Those are not fake jokes,” he said.

The second attempt went as well as you’d expect, with Poulter’s head diving straight into the sink as Guggenheimer laughed hysterically.

“It’s disgusting,” he said.

Nevertheless, he was convinced to make a third attempt to complete the challenge.

This time it was a resounding success. He managed to inhale the heaping tablespoon of barbecue sauce, keep a straight face and even smile at the camera before the big reveal.

“And it was all one big joke,” Guggenheimer said as Poulter walked straight back to the sink.

Fans couldn’t get enough of the couple’s antics, with one posting: ‘The absolute determination Caleb had in that last attempt’ with laughing emojis.

“Oh my GOD, I can’t begin to explain how funny this was to me,” another posted.

“I’m honestly obsessed with you guys, you guys are so funny,” another follower replied.

“This is honestly the best thing I’ve ever seen,” another added.
