Manchester United football director John Murtough and CEO Richard Arnold are at the center of ongoing talks to settle the dispute between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.

Sancho’s future at Old Trafford is unclear after he publicly refuted claims from head coach Ten Hag that he was left out of the squad to face Arsenal ahead of the international break because his performances in training were not up to par.

The winger returned to training early this week after non-international players were given time off last week and has held talks with United officials as the club look to draw a line under the public row – with Arnold and Murtough taking an active role in trying to settle the de-escalate tensions between player and manager.

There is agreement at United that the situation is not easy to resolve and as a result Murtough in particular is heavily involved in the process of resolving the problem.

Arnold is regularly updated on the progress of those conversations, but Murtough’s role is considered significantly more prominent.

Sancho deleted the social media post dismissing Ten Hag’s claims that he was not training properly.

That was seen as the first step towards a solution, but it remains to be seen whether Sancho is involved in Saturday’s match selection against Brighton.

Mail Sport revealed last week that United did not receive approval from Sancho to make comments about his mental health last season.

It has now emerged that there was also concern behind the scenes at United after public comments from Ten Hag about Sancho’s ‘mental’ fitness.
