Manchester United’s chances of finishing in the top four this season have fallen by as much as 35 percent, according to Opta’s AI supercomputer.
The Red Devils have had a difficult start to their 2023/2024 season, having already suffered two Premier League defeats to Spurs and Arsenal.
In addition to their on-field struggles, the ongoing sagas surrounding Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Antony have caused disruptions in the squad.
And with all this in mind, Opta’s supercomputer has – again – listed the numbers for their Premier League predictions and that does not yield great numbers for the Red Devils.
Ahead of the start of the season, the supercomputer claimed United had a 63.2 percent chance of finishing in the top four this season.

However, after just four games, the supercomputer has reassessed their chances and now suggests the Red Devils have 28.42 percent of the qualifications for next season’s Champions League.
Ahead of the 2023/24 season, United were also given a 1.70 percent chance of winning the Premier League. According to the statistics, they now have a chance of 0.09.
As United’s predicted finish in the league continues to fall, the prediction engine has given a positive rating to one of their league rivals.
Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham have made a good start to their domestic season and have already seen their chances of finishing in the top four grow.
Before the season started, Opta claimed Spurs had a paltry 9.5 percent chance of returning to Europe’s elite competition.
Now, after picking up ten points in the first four games, the supercomputer says Spurs have a 31.86 percent chance of finishing in the top four.

Meanwhile, Everton’s early struggles have left their survival hopes dealt a major blow
Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Everton’s chances of surviving the relegation battle have been dealt a huge blow after their poor start to the league.
The Toffees’ slow start to the campaign – which has seen them pick up one point from their opening four games – has seen them fall significantly from the supercomputer’s predictions.
Ahead of the campaign, Opta’s stats engine suggested Sean Dyche’s side were at a loss of 34.41 percent.
Now the struggling Merseyside club have a 52.34 per cent chance of going down. As it stands, only Luton Town and Sheffield United have a better chance of being relegated.
