Mother, 47, dies after undergoing full-body liposuction at Russian clinic: family claims she was pressured to undergo procedure after undergoing facelift
- Anna Andrea had fat removed from almost every part of her body during the procedure
- Dr. Maria Burlova, head of the Abriell Clinic, performed the operation
Police are investigating how a woman died when her condition deteriorated ‘catastrophically’ two days after she underwent full-body liposuction at a Russian clinic.
Anna Andrea, 47, had fat removed from her face, neck, chin, breasts, abdomen, hips, flanks, back, inner and outer thighs, buttocks, knees, calves and ankles in one procedure.
A top Russian plastic surgeon Maria Burlova, head of the Abriell clinic, performed the operation in St. Petersburg, but now faces a prison sentence.
The husband and daughter of the deceased woman said they were not told when she was rushed to a government hospital as complications arose two days after the procedure.
It is suspected that she had a heart attack and her body swelled.

Her shocked daughter Kira Fedora said her mother had only planned for a facelift.
“She only discussed this procedure with me, and also with her friends and my father,” the grieving daughter said.
She claimed that her mother was pressured to operate on not just her face, but her entire body, which the clinic actively promotes.
Her mother had heart tests before the surgery and “everything was fine,” she said.
After the full-body liposuction, her mother communicated with her family, but this suddenly stopped when her condition worsened.
“We have already filed a lawsuit against this clinic,” the daughter said.
Dr. Burlova did not comment.
A video advertisement shows the surgeon advertising her services.
“We are the leader in the Russian market for combined plastic surgery,” the surgeon says in a promotional video

An investigation by the Russian Investigative Committee is underway.
The clinic is suspected of ‘carrying out work or providing services that do not meet safety requirements’.
This can lead to a prison sentence of up to six years for causing death by ‘negligence’.
