The Bachelorette star Charlie Newling dies: Ali Oetjen looks sombre as she steps out in Queensland following news of former suitor’s suicide
The Single Woman’s Ali Oetjen makes her first appearance since news broke that her former suitor Charlie Newling had died after his car fell off a cliff in Sydney.
The 37-year-old looked somber as she stepped out of Queensland on Tuesday, just hours after it was announced the troubled reality star had died.
The TV star looked deep in thought as she walked to her car after visiting a local store.
She wore gray workout tights, a crop top, a long-sleeved linen shirt and beige sandals for the outing.
After returning from her shopping trip, Ali shared a video on her Instagram of herself emitting healing crystals.

‘Hello, I just finished a coaching session and I noticed that my clear quartz crystal radiates so much warmth. So it does its job and connects to my body,” she began.
‘I have three gold chains at 35 percent off and there are also a few silver chains. So if you haven’t already and you love crystals, check them out.”
The video came just hours after news broke that 36-year-old Newling, who appeared on Oetjen’s 2018 season of The Bachelorette, died after his car fell off a cliff in the eastern suburbs of Dover Heights at 11 p.m. on Saturday from Sydney.
Police and paramedics arrived at Raleigh Reserve after being contacted by locals, who found his car on fire at the bottom of the 70-metre cliff.
Newling is said to have welcomed his second child, a daughter, with his partner Kristal Taylor just eight weeks ago.
He also has a 13-year-old son from a previous relationship.

Newling was initially a front-runner to win Oetjen’s heart on the Channel 10 dating show and was nicknamed ‘Mr Perfect’ by viewers after boasting about his strong ‘family values’.
But fans turned on him over his alleged controlling behavior towards Oetjen, including refusing to introduce her to his family until they were “exclusive.”
Then, just two days after he was kicked off The Bachelorette, footage emerged of him being wrestled to the ground outside The Golden Sheaf in Double Bay.
Newling, who had appeared on The Project earlier that evening, said he had been drinking and celebrating his time on the show with friends when a scuffle broke out with bouncers at around 10.50pm.
After the incident, it emerged that he had a then eight-year-old son from a previous relationship which he had not revealed on the show.

While he briefly dated former Bachelor star Dasha Gaivoronski after leaving the show, he kept a low profile.
This lasted until September 2022, when he was sentenced to 13 months in prison he threatened to torture and kill his stepfather in a series of 37 text messages over a three-hour period.
Magistrate Ross Hudson heard Newling had suffered significant childhood trauma, including caring for his biological father when he was a teenager after he had an accident and became paralysed.
His father died of a pain medication overdose in 2018.

The court also heard that Newling, who worked as a builder after finding fame on The Bachelorette, had struggled with alcohol abuse.
He was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol in 2021. He was given a 13-month prison sentence to be served in the community.
A police spokesperson confirmed that Saturday evening’s crash was not being treated as suspicious.
