Ex-Man United boss Ralf Rangnick gives blunt reply when asked about the vacant Germany job after Hansi Flick was fired

Former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick gave a very blunt one-word answer when asked if he would like a job in Germany.

Hansi Flick was sacked as Germany coach on Sunday after a miserable 4-1 friendly defeat to Japan and a terrible run of form for the European Championship 2024 hosts.

Attention is focused on Flick’s successor, with Rangnick – currently Austria’s coach – one of the prominent names in the frame.

The 65-year-old took the job in Austria after his failed interim spell at Old Trafford in 2021-22, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the arrival of Erik ten Hag.

When asked by reporters whether he would consider taking charge of Germany, Rangnick simply replied: “No.”

After being pressed for his reasons, he added: ‘I decided 14 months ago to work here as team boss and prepare the team so that we qualify for the European Championship and play a good role there.

‘Everything else is no problem for me.’

Rangnick has won six, drawn three and lost four of his thirteen games as Austrian coach so far.

They are currently second behind Belgium in European Championship qualifying group F and face a crucial meeting with third-placed Sweden on Tuesday evening after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Moldova last week.

According to reports on Monday, the German Football Association will speak to Julian Nagelsmann and Matthias Sammer about Flick’s succession.

Nagelsmann, who parted ways with Bayern Munich in March, is currently the favorite to get the job after Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ruled himself out of the race.

German legend Sammer has also worked at Bayern as a sporting director and currently works part-time as a consultant for Borussia Dortmund.

Rudi Voller will take the lead Die Mannschaft when they play France in a friendly match on Tuesday evening.
