Australian mum makes stunning secret room under the stairs for her teen daughter using buys from Kmart and Ikea
A mum has wowed hundreds of people with the craft room she created for her teenage daughter in the corner under her stairs.
The creative home stylist had converted the cupboard under the stairs into an art room for her now 13-year-old, giving it a stunning update while her daughter studies writing, animation and gaming.
The room is decorated with art supplies such as colored pens, paints and notebooks and decorated with soft toys and figurines.
Previously, the art room had plywood shelves and a desk with supplies and chalkboards on the walls, while the ceiling featured colorful paper cranes.
The mother gave the room a more grown-up look with a sleek black, white and gray color palette, a terrazzo worktop and shelves and a wall-mounted computer.

She previously remodeled the room, but gave it a much-needed update as her daughter enters her teenage years
She decorated the room with Polaroid photos hung with flexible curtain wire and curtain clips from Ikea and a collection of stuffed animals and figurines.
The pens and markers were cleverly stored upright on a foam shelf and there was even room for extra storage space.
Supplies were stored in shelves and containers around the mounted computer monitor on a pegboard from Ikea’s Skadis series.
She used adhesive vinyl on the desk and shelves, picture rails, storage containers and notebooks and folders, all from Kmart.
The mother shared her impressive handiwork in one after to Kmart Home Décor and Hacks Australia’s Facebook page, prompting virtual applause from some of the group’s half-million members.
“Wow, I would love this, and I’m decades older than your daughter. One happy young lady,” one woman wrote and another joked, “Are you adopting?”.
‘I’m impressed. That’s a very well organized workspace,” said a third.
‘This is amazing! You’re so creative!’ someone added.
