Chelsea fear Romeo Lavia will be out SIX weeks with an ankle injury… with £58m contract forced to wait until October for his Blues debut

  • Romeo Lavia may be sidelined for six weeks due to an ankle injury
  • Chelsea’s £58million summer signing was injured in training last week
  • The 19-year-old will now be out until at least October

Chelsea fear that Romeo Lavia will miss at least six weeks due to the ankle injury he suffered in training last week.

Lavia twisted his ankle during a session on Thursday and had a scan the next day.

Early indications after tests are that Lavia has suffered some ligament damage and a problem serious enough to raise concerns he will be sidelined for at least a month and a half.

Chelsea are yet to confirm the full severity of the teenage midfielder’s setback. The situation is expected to become clearer in the coming days.

Such a spell on the sidelines would further delay Lavia’s Chelsea debut until the end of October.

Romeo Lavia completed a move from Southampton to Chelsea for £58million this summer

The 19-year-old has yet to make his bow following his £58m move from Southampton and has instead worked on building up his fitness since his move.

Chelsea still have five games to play before the next international break in early October against Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Fulham and Burnley in the Premier League and Brighton in the Carabao Cup.

They will be back in action after the international break on October 21 against Arsenal and a week later they will also host Brentford.
