Chilling documentary lifts the lid on cold case of a 19-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted and brutally bludgeoned to death in her boyfriend’s Texas home… as heinous crime still remains unsolved 16 YEARS on

A popular crime documentary series has uncovered the chilling true story of a 19-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted and beaten to death at her boyfriend’s home in a gruesome murder that has remained unsolved for 16 years.

Brittany McGlone was brutally attacked in 2007 as she slept in her home in Winnsboro, Texas.

It wasn’t until fifteen years later that the young woman’s family thought progress had finally been made in the case, after a man named Chad Carr was charged with her murder.

But a grand jury ultimately ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to indict him and Carr walked free — much to the dismay of Brittany’s family..

Here, FEMAIL has exposed the disturbing reality in the latest episode of People Magazine investigates investigates the unsolved case.

The horrific true story began on May 4, 2007, after Brittany returned home from her night shift at the Lowe’s Distribution Center in Mount Vernon.

She had taken a year off after graduating high school and was working two jobs to save money to study nursing in college.

The teen drove straight back to boyfriend Jeff Stogner’s house after her shift to sleep and is believed to have arrived sometime after 7am.

Jeff and his family – who also lived at the address – told authorities they were not home at the time and instead gave someone a ride to the airport.

But when Brittany’s boyfriend returned, he was confronted with a harrowing discovery.

He found the 19-year-old’s lifeless body in his room and called 911.

According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Brittany was sexually assaulted and beaten with an unknown object sometime between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

A statement seen by KWTX later revealed that the victim’s undergarments were missing from the crime scene and an autopsy revealed that the cause of death was major head trauma.

Her mother Patricia Tice told it earlier People: ‘That my sweet 19-year-old daughter could be murdered as she was in a small town, and that she was surrounded by monsters and people capable of murder – and that I had no idea.’

In the aftermath of Brittany’s death, detectives interviewed several people involved in the case — including Jeff and his family — but no suspects were publicly named.

The cold case was featured on Dateline in 2021 in an episode where Brittany’s half-sister Hope McGlone revealed that the family had many theories about the killer’s identity.

Among them was a man known to the Stogner family who was questioned early in the investigation.

The suspect also had a criminal history that included previous charges of burglary and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Wood County records.

On September 1, 2022, the Sheriff’s Office posted a Facebook update on Brittany’s case – 15 years after her death.

It stated that a man named Chad Carr was arrested for capital murder in connection with Brittany’s death and was being held on a $1 million bond.

Authorities wrote that they have been “working diligently… to help Brittany McGlone’s family find closure.”

The aforementioned statement stated that the evidence against him included a statement from Carr’s girlfriend that he had been furious that the victim had stayed overnight at the Stogner house – despite the fact that he had never been allowed to do so.

That, along with holes in Carr’s alibi and a failed polygraph test, was cited as probable cause for his arrest, according to the report.

But progress in the case was short-lived and a grand jury ruled there was not enough evidence to charge him with the murder, according to NBC affiliate KETK.

He was released from the Wood County Jail on November 30, 2022, much to the dismay of Brittany’s family.

Hope discussed Carr’s arrest and subsequent release with the network at the time, saying, “I’m a little speechless when it comes to that because I never thought we’d see it that day.”

“And when this happened, it felt like another whirlwind.”

She also told CBS 19, “Honestly, frustrated isn’t even the right word. I’m furious.’

No other suspects have been named in the investigation.

Brittany’s family continues to search for answers and has built a large following on their titled Facebook page Who killed Brittany McGlone.

On the anniversary of her death earlier this year, a message said: ‘This is one of the most difficult anniversaries. The first day of May I was overcome by waves of fear. This year marks 16 years since you were taken from us…

‘This is also a year in which you have been wronged MUCH more than I thought. I never thought it would get any worse than it already was, but I’ve been proven wrong.

“What is wrong with you that the people who are supposed to bring you justice don’t believe you deserve it? What makes these people so heartless?’

It continued: “I don’t know what else we can do. The more time passes, the more mistakes are made, leaving me with a feeling of emptiness and powerlessness…

“You are loved, remembered and cherished by the people you knew. And to the people responsible for taking your life and stifling any chance of justice, your day will come.

“To the Wood County District Attorney: You should all be deeply ashamed and undeserving of the titles you hold. You should be a champion for the victims, yet you are almost as responsible for what happened to Brittany.”
