University of Miami junior football player Kamren Kinchens appeared to suffer a serious injury late in the Hurricanes’ win over Texas A&M on Saturday in South Florida.
The All-American safety attempted a tackle on the play in the fourth quarter but was left virtually motionless on the grass after colliding with Aggies receiver Ainias Smith.
Kinchens was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, according to the school.
The Hurricanes would improve to 2-0 after two wins, 48-33, while the Aggies fall to 1-1 on the year.
Miami head coach Mario Cristobal said initial reports were that things are “relatively normal” at Kinchens. Cristobal said he was on his way to the hospital after his post-match press conference, but thinks Kinchens will be fine.

“It’s as hard as it can be. There are parents in the stands,” Cristobal said. ‘Very hopeful. I don’t like to get ahead of myself, but I would like to think that everything is going in the right direction.’
Cristobal added that he will visit Kinchens as soon as he gets a chance to leave Hard Rock Stadium.
Medical personnel tended to Kinchens when players from both teams took a knee with 1:33 left in Saturday’s game.
After working on Kinchens for several minutes, the medical staff loaded him onto a stretcher and carried him off the field. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The crowd, excited as Miami staged a comeback after falling into an early 10-point hole, fell silent.
A few of Kinchens’ teammates gathered in a circle to pray.
“We love you, 5,” the Miami Hurricanes football account on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared after Saturday’s home win.
Kinchens had a big game up to that point with an interception of Aggies quarterback Conner Weigman in the third quarter.
He was an All-American last year and a preseason All-American this year.
