Music legend ‘is set to sing in Asda’s Christmas adverts… which will be directed by Taika Waititi’

Michael Buble will reportedly star in a series of Christmas adverts this year.

The undisputed King of Christmas, 48, is said to be teaming up with the supermarket chain to front their festive advertising campaign.

The crooner will reportedly appear as a cashier in Asda’s festive adverts and is even expected to chime in with a few notes in the commercials.

And he’s not the only star reportedly getting involved, as the series of ads will be directed by Taika Waititi, according to The sun.

Every year retailers including John Lewis pull out all the stops for their festive campaign, and Asda appears to have gone all out with their top talent.

A source told the publication: ‘The Christmas TV ad market has exploded. Everyone wants to have the best in the game.

‘John Lewis, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and everyone else is pulling out all the stops.

“But it’s hard to see someone at the top making Buble sing in an Asda uniform. It’s a brilliant idea.’

MailOnline has contacted Asda representatives Michael and Taika for comment.

Michael has been the unparalleled King of Christmas for years since the release of his very first festive album in 2011, on which he sang classics such as Silent Night and Jingle Bells.

In 2011, he celebrated ten years since the release of his iconic album and spoke to DailyMailTV about his perennial hits and the Michael Buble memes that make the rounds every December.

‘I remember very well saying: ‘No, I’m not making a Christmas album, I’m making the Christmas album,’” Michael said with a grin.

“One of the first records that had a big impact on me was Bing Crosby, the White Christmas album, and it was my introduction to jazz and those wonderful crooners. I thought, ‘Oh my God, this moved me.’

A-list talent! And he's not the only star reportedly getting involved, as the series of ads will reportedly be directed by Taika Waititi.

‘I thought, you know what, this is going to be… This is going to be a good record. People are going to like this,” he said, adding that he “really had no idea” Michael Bublé Christmas would be a holiday juggernaut.

A longtime lover of all things Christmas, Michael admitted he sees the holiday and his role in it very differently since his 10-year-old son Noah was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2016.

“It’s crazy because when I made this record, I wasn’t even thinking about having kids at the time,” he said. “We went through our stuff with our son and I think it became a very emotional thing for me.”

“If I ever could have imagined that I would be associated with a time that really means so much to people,” the star continued. ‘It became a very great privilege.’

Michael’s son Noah – whom he shares with his wife Luisana Lopilato – was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a rare form of liver cancer, in 2016 at the age of three.

Noah had to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy after his diagnosis and is now in remission.

Michael previously told Red magazine about the ordeal: ‘That obviously changed me enormously – it changed what was important to me, it changed the way I saw life.

‘For most of my life as an entertainer and especially on stage, I was my alter ego. I would become the superhero I always wanted to be.

“Then my wife and I experienced something unthinkable, and I lost that alter ego.”
