A Pokémon collaboration shows that Hatsune Miku was always meant to be a trainer

An absolute icon has come to Pokémon. The Pokémon Company announced a new collaboration with Hatsune Miku on Monday. Called “Project tension”, the collaboration includes art and music inspired by the singer and Pokémon franchise. Now that we’ve seen some of the art, it appears that Hatsune Miku was always ready for battle.

The collaboration started on Monday. Every day since then, The Pokémon Company has been releasing artwork of Hatsune Miku depicting her as a different type of trainer. The art includes all 18 species and is drawn by six artists. Monday’s program started with Art of Miku, dressed as a paranormal trainer. She is pictured with Meloetta, the melody Pokémon, which suits the singer perfectly.

You can check out the art in the gallery below. Personally, I love seeing how each artist adapts her iconic double ponytail look to match each element.

In addition to the art shown here, you can also check out more character art from the special versions of Hatsune Miku.

For those unfamiliar, Hatsune Miku is a vocaloid. The software to generate her voice was released in 2007 by the Japanese company Crypton Future Media. The company needed a mascot to market the software, and so Hatsune Miku was born. Fast forward more than a decade, and Hatsune Miku has gained wider global appeal. The character regularly hosts concerts through her digital avatar, has several associated video games and was planned performance at Coachella in 2020.

Now we see her as a Pokémon trainer, and I have to say, I’m dying to challenge her to a battle.
