Gogglebox fan favourite duo reveal they have quit the show to ‘explore other opportunities’ – after swerving the NTAs

Stephen Webb and his husband Daniel Lustig have revealed that they have retired from Gogglebox.

The popular duo announced the sad news via their Instagram accounts, saying they had made the decision to “explore other options.”

Stephen wrote, “After careful consideration, Daniel and I have decided that we will not be returning for the new series of Gogglebox.

“We believe the time is right to move on and explore other options. We would both like to thank Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for letting us be a part of this wonderful, funny and heartwarming show.

“We are also very grateful to the cast and crew, or the Gogglebox family as we call them, and of course the fans, thank you for all your love and support over the years.”

Captioning the post, he added, “After an incredible 10 years….” while David wrote, “What a ride it was. Great love’.

They also shared a video of them thanking their fans together, saying, “Hey guys, you may have just seen our statement, but we’re not returning this series to Gogglebox.

So we thought we’d put out this little video just for the fans of the show. Just to say thank you for your love and support over the years. It really meant a lot and we just wanted to make this video to say thank you.”

They then joked, “And if you do get withdrawal symptoms, we’re available on Netflix.” Or come and cut in the salon!’

‘It was an absolute ride and an absolute joy, but don’t forget Channel 4, 9pm on Friday… Gogglebox!’

Channel 4 released a statement saying: ‘After a brilliant and illustrious time on Gogglebox, Stephen and Daniel have decided now is the right time to explore life beyond the couch and leave the show.

As one of the original Goggleboxers, Stephen has entertained the nation with his hilarious gags since the show first began in 2013, sharing his thoughts on the best and biggest TV events of the past decade.

“We would like to thank him and Daniel for their utterly brilliant contributions to the show, and we wish them the best of luck with their future projects.”

Stephen first joined the show in the first series in 2013 alongside his best friend Chris Butland-Steed.

However, the pair fell out, leading to Chris quitting in 2018, while Stephen was joined by his mother Pat on the couch.

Stephen married Daniel in 2018 after a two-year engagement, and subsequently joined his man on the show.

Gogglebox returns with a new series on Friday 8 at 9pm on Channel 4.
