  • Surveillance cameras captured a grenade exploding near a car in Ecuador on Saturday night
  • The incident occurred shortly after five gunmen opened fire on a house in the town of La Concordia
  • A police official said they received no reports of injuries or deaths after searching medical facilities in the area

This is the shocking moment when gunmen open fire on a house in Ecuador and nearly kill themselves when one of the team members forgot to throw the grenade after pulling the pin.

Footage from the incident shows five men pointing their guns at the residence in the town of La Concordia on Saturday night.

One of the gunners could be heard say, “Fire it,” as a hail of bullets was unleashed.

However, the group is then seen running back to their getaway vehicle after appearing to be spotted by someone. A group member yelled “go, go, go,” before the driver sped down the street.

Nearly twelve seconds pass as the explosion flashes on screen, shaking the house more than 500 meters away.

The reason why the gunmen shot at the house has not yet been disclosed.

In the hours following the explosion, local media initially reported that four suspects were killed and two others seriously injured after the grenade exploded inside the car.

Gustavo Jávita, a senior law enforcement official with the La Concordia Police Department, refuted the claims in an interview with El Universo on Monday.

‘There are small health centers in La Concordia. We investigated whether there were any injuries from this event, but we had no results,” he said.

Jávita added that police also visited medical facilities in other cities in the province of Santo Domingo and there were no reports of injuries.

He also said authorities have not received any reports from the owners of the property.

The grenade blast was the latest in a series of violent events that have plagued Ecuador as gangs linked to Mexican cartels battle for control of the country’s prison system and lucrative drug-smuggling routes.

Last Friday, 57 police officers and guards were released by prisoners who held them hostage in six prisons for more than a day.

The kidnappings followed a government operation targeting prisons, which seized weapons and other contraband earlier this week.

The gangs allegedly responded by firing four car bombs and three explosives in different parts of Ecuador in the space of 48 hours.

The National Police reported that dynamite had been placed early Friday morning on the bridge that connects two towns in the coastal province of El Oro.

A car bomb shook the Ministry of Women’s and Human Rights in the capital Quito late on Wednesday. A second blast outside the prison ministry building shook the city early Thursday.
