A British swimming spokesperson told Mail Sport: “An incident occurred during a recent training session which was quickly and effectively resolved by the athletes involved and staff present at the session.”

Sources close to the couple have also denied that the spat was over their fellow swimmer Anna Hopkin, who is Greenbank’s girlfriend but has never had a relationship with Peaty, contrary to reports.

Peaty, 28, and Greenbank, 25, have been teammates and training partners for several years and have always enjoyed a close relationship.

Greenbank is also involved with Peaty’s coaching academy, AP Race Clinics, and will appear alongside him at a session at the London Aquatics Center later this month.

Peaty has returned to full-time training after missing the World Championships in July to prioritize his mental health.

He is now preparing for Paris 2024, where he will attempt to defend his title in the 100-meter breaststroke, becoming only the second swimmer after Michael Phelps to win the same swimming title in three consecutive Games.

Greenbank is also training for the Olympics after taking time out from the pool last summer after failing to make the British team for the World Championships in Japan.
