Chris Eubank Jr’s trainer is arrested at Manchester Airport after a gun was found in a suitcase by security checks ahead of his flight to the US after Saturday night’s fight

The trainer of Chris Eubank Jr. was arrested by armed airport police after security officials found a gun in a suitcase.

Mail Sport understands that Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre was detained at Manchester Airport on Sunday morning amid dramatic scenes.

The alarm was raised when a scan of the luggage – which had been checked in prior to a flight – would show the weapon.

Police officers with their own guns descended on the Terminal 2 departure lounge and arrested 53-year-old McIntyre, who was scheduled to fly to Atlanta, for suspected firearm possession.

McIntyre, himself a former boxer from the United States, had overseen Eubank Jr.’s sweeping victory on Saturday night. on Liam Smith in their middleweight rematch in the city.

It came the morning after Eubank Jr.’s convincing win. on Liam Smith on Saturday night at the AO Arena in Manchester.

A police spokesman said a weapon had been seized and found in checked baggage by airport staff

The briefcase was checked in with little effort to conceal the weapon, it is believed. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: ‘On Sunday 3 September 2023 at around 10.45am officers were called to reports that a possible firearm had been found in hold baggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport.

“After the initial inspection by security personnel, GMP agents were present and the firearm was seized.

“Subsequently, a man was arrested for possession of a firearm and remains in custody for further questioning.”

How the weapon ended up in the suitcase will be part of the police investigation.

McIntyre is widely regarded as one of the best trainers in the sport. He orchestrated what was Eubank’s career best performance in the pair’s first fight together. Crawford is considered by some to be the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

He has also cornered former super featherweight champion Jamel Herring and trained Amir Khan for his bout with Kell Brook last year.

McIntyre also trains American star Terence Crawford. The pair grew up on the same street in Omaha and trained at the same gym.

Eubank Jr.’s team declined to comment when approached by Mail Sport.
