Erik ten Hag says Jadon Sancho was dropped due to ‘training performance’ – before the winger says the Man United boss’s comments are ‘completely FALSE’ and claims he has been ‘scapegoated’
Man United winger Jadon Sancho has contradicted Erik ten Hag’s claims that he was left out of the squad for Sunday’s clash with Arsenal because of ‘his training performance’.
The 23-year-old has struggled to kick off at Old Trafford since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 and has scored just 12 goals.
He has appeared off the bench in each of United’s three previous Premier League games this season before being left out of the squad on Sunday.
There have been previous complaints about attitude and fitness against the England international, but Sancho has contradicted Ten Hag’s recent comments in the strongest terms.
In a social media post, he said, “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people to say things that are completely untrue. I behaved really well in training this week.
“I believe there are other reasons for this issue which I will not go into. I have been a scapegoat for a long time, which is not fair!
“All I want is to play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions made by the coaching staff, I play with great players and am thankful for that, which I know is a challenge every week.
“I’ll keep fighting for this badge no matter what!”
