Rhod Gilbert plans to return to the stage with a comedy tour in 2024 after undergoing stage four cancer treatment

Rhod Gilbert has announced his intention to return to the stage after admitting that “life is too short,” following his stage four cancer treatment.

The comedian, 54, who was diagnosed with head and neck cancer last July, is planning a comedy tour in 2024.

In a new interview on BBC Radio Wales last month, the Welsh comedian said he was very grateful to Cardiff’s Velindre Cancer Center for ‘getting it up and running’.

Adding: “My new attitude is that life is too short, you have to persevere and do these things.”

His last tour Book Of John ran from 2019 to June 2023 due to interruptions in his health and the pandemic.

He continued, “I’ve been doing some scribbling, I’ve got some ideas and I’ve tried some things.

‘I think I’m going on tour again next year, it’s all starting to take shape.’

In May, Rhod admitted he was “glad to be alive” before taking the stage for the first time since his diagnosis.

The comedian shared a video on Instagram of him preparing for a performance at the Swansea Arena following his health issues.

He wrote a post on the venue’s “wall of fame,” saying, “It’s great to be back in stand-up for the first time in a year. I’m feeling good.

‘Lovely to be here, great to be back in Swansea, great to be alive, great to be on tour again’.

In his caption, the star wrote, “Happy to be back on stage and finishing what I started with #TheBookofJohn @arenaabertawe has been a joy.

Now on to @hall_for_cornwall. Thank you very much for waiting for me.’

WHAT IS HEAD AND NECCA CANCER?

Head and neck cancer is an umbrella term for cancer of the nose, mouth, throat, larynx, thyroid and salivary glands.

It is the eighth most common cancer in Britain, with more than 12,000 cases diagnosed each year.

There are more than 30 areas in the head and neck where the cancer can develop, including the mouth, lips, voice, throat, and salivary glands.

Oral cancer is the most common form of head and neck cancer, while laryngeal cancer can develop in the tissue of the voice box.

Thyroid cancer, brain tumors, eye cancer, and esophageal cancer are not normally classified as head and neck cancer types.
