Michael Jordan’s copy of To Kill a Mockingbird – signed by author Harper Lee in 1995 – is up for sale and estimated to go for $24,000

Michael Jordan’s signed copy of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird is up for sale.

The NBA superstar was sent a signed edition of the book by Lee in 1995 – it’s a 35th anniversary release and the author sent autographed copies to people she was connected to in some way.

Jordan, who was playing with the Chicago Bulls at the time, kept it in his library with his then-wife Juanita Vanoy. They divorced in 2006 and she kept the library.

The book was later bought by a private collector, but now Moments in Time has it for sale.

They list it as “priced on demand” and don’t explain Lee’s ties to Jordan, but according to TMZ, it could fetch around $24,000.

Author Lee – who wrote only one novel in her life – died in 2016 at the age of 89

The personalized message in the book simply reads, “To Michael Jordan, Best Wishes – Harper Lee.”

Lee, who published Mockingbird in 1960, passed away in 2016 at age 89, while Jordan, now 60, recently sold his Charlotte Hornets NBA franchise for $3 billion.

Jordan’s estimated wealth now stands at $3.5 billion, making him the richest player in NBA history.

Set in Alabama, Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story centered on children Scout and Jem Finch, whose father Atticus defends a black man accused of rape.

Lee himself was born in Monroeville, Alabama and also died there.

At the time she sent Jordan his gift, the Bulls hero was a three-time NBA champion and would go on to win three more, cementing his legacy as the greatest game of all time.

Both Lee and Jordan have received the Presidential Medal of Freedom – George W. Bush awarded the honor to Lee in 2007 and Barack Obama presented the same honor to Jordan in 2016.

Lee published only two books in her life. The second, Go Set a Watchman, came out in 2015.
