South Sydney pay moving tribute to NRL premiership winner Kyle Turner after former star died aged 31 ahead of must-win match against the Roosters

The Rabbitohs have paid a touching tribute to their former premiership winner Kyle Turner following his death at the age of 31 ahead of their big game against Sydney Roosters on Friday night.

Turner, 31, died suddenly last month in his hometown of Coonabarabran in northern NSW – and news of his passing rocked both the code and some of his former NRL teammates.

The 2014 premiership winner went on to make 91 First Division appearances for Souths and was remembered by the club in their recent away game against Newcastle after they took his number 15 jersey out of action.

John Sutton – who guided the Bunnies to that famous premiership and is currently a coach with the side – was tasked with bringing Turner’s top onto the pitch in emotional scenes at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The team also wore black armbands in his honor.

And in their first home game since Turner’s untimely death, the players gathered for a moment of reflection before kicking off against the Roosters.

Latrell Mitchell and Cameron Murray were seen joining arms for the minute’s silence, while Roosters stars also observed the break for reflection.
