New mum is slammed by travellers over controversial plane act millions of people are guilty of doing: ‘I’d be so mad’
A video of a new mother comforting her baby during a long flight has divided travelers.
We see Aliza Carr, a midwife, jumping up and down the emergency aisle and stroking her baby as the plane heads for its destination.
In the video, the mother jokes that she has discovered the secret to tight buttocks and legs: “Take a four-month-old who sleeps only in the baby carrier to five countries in a month.”
She added that she thought the most strenuous part of becoming a mother was pregnancy — until she was one.
My mom struck out after sharing a video from a long flight with her baby
“And for some it is, but for me it was 100% in the postpartum phase. It was this, here. The hours and hours a day of baby carrying my little koala and never getting a break,” she wrote.
She added that the flight in question was more than fourteen hours long and she had to take Panadol to ease the pain in her body from rocking her baby.
The light-hearted and well-meaning message went viral and hundreds of people responded to tell her she did well.
“You’re a wonderful mother. If I had been on that plane with you, I would have been so proud to see a mother put aside her own comfort and peace to care for her baby,” said one woman.
But others were furious with the mother who claimed that babies should be at home and not on long-haul flights.
“If I sat in the exit row and paid for the extra legroom… I would be very upset if this happened in front of me the entire flight,” said one woman.
‘Try to stay at home. People with babies should do that as long and often as possible,” said another.
‘How annoying such ‘dancing’ mamas. The child has been sleeping for 30 minutes, but they still jump with the child and annoy people around. I was recently ‘lucky’ to fly with a similar woman,” a third added.
Aliza was criticized in the comments to the video by people calling her selfish
Others couldn’t understand the need for bounce.
“I have three of them and none of them required me to bounce them back and forth to calm down or sleep. That is learned behaviour. If you do it once, you’ll do it until they’re toddlers. Difficult pass for me,’ snapped a mother.
“How would you like to be tossed around like that. You should give it a try. Poor baby,’ said a woman.
Aliza had fans come to her rescue when she was inundated with critical comments.
“Mothers can do absolutely nothing right these days. Let your baby fall asleep standing up, annoying for the person sitting in front of you. Breastfeed your baby to sleep without getting up from your seat, you will be asked to cover yourself and seen as obscene. Let your baby cry in the crib and disturb everyone, what a monster. Why can’t we just praise our moms for doing their best to calm their kids down? Well done mommy for keeping your little one happy,” one woman wrote.
While others went straight to the commenters, criticizing them for being disrespectful or “perfect parents.”
