Real Madrid star Toni Kroos has targeted players moving to Saudi Arabia ‘for money and not football’, insisting that human rights would ‘dissuade me from taking such a step.’

The German last week attacked Gabri Veiga over his “embarrassing” move to Al-Ahli, after the 21-year-old Spanish prodigy chose the Saudi club over Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

And Kroos, 33, has doubled down on his comments by once again criticizing money-grabbing players hoping to make a quick buck in the Middle East.

“It is said that football is ambitious there, but it is all about money,” he told Sports Illustrated.

“Ultimately it’s a decision for the money and against the football.”

Kroos was slightly more sympathetic to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, his former Real team-mate, who moved to the Pro League at the end of their career.

“That’s when it starts to get difficult for the football we all know and love. Everyone has to make a decision for themselves, just like Cristiano Ronaldo, who decided to do this towards the end of his career,” he said.

“But it becomes very difficult when players, who are in the middle of their careers and have the quality to play for the best clubs in Europe, decide to make those changes.

“The lack of human rights is what keeps me from leaving.”

Saudi clubs have succeeded in attracting high-profile players such as Ronaldo, Neymar, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez and Roberto Firmino to the Kingdom.

But Veiga’s decision to move there from Celta Vigo early in his career was much more surprising after turning down a host of top European clubs.

Kroos took to Instagram to comment that the move was “embarrassing.”

The midfielder enters his tenth season at Real Madrid, making 420 appearances for the club in that time, winning four Champions League and three LaLiga titles.

It comes as Al-Ittihad prepares a sensational £118 million bid to lure Mohamed Salah – the most marketable Arab personality – away from Liverpool, who are adamant the Egyptian will not be going anywhere.
