Chris Sutton has called Matheus Nunes a ‘disgrace’ for refusing to train with Wolves in a bid to force a move to Manchester City.

Nunes will join City in a £53 million deal after leaving Molineux.

The 25-year-old refused to train on Sunday and Monday and was unavailable for the club’s EFL Cup clash with Blackpool on Tuesday.

City’s initial £47m offer was turned down by Wolves, and the move looked set to collapse before a £53m deal was agreed on Thursday, with payments to be spread over a longer period.

Premier League winner Sutton said on Mail Sport’s It’s All Kicking Off transfer deadline special that Wolves fans will be pleased to see the Brazilian’s back following his recent behaviour.

“From a football point of view, I’ve never knocked down any tools! I think Nunes is a bit of a disgrace,” Sutton said.

‘Nunes was happy to sign his contract, but are contracts worth anything now?

“He’s downed tools, looks like he’s going to get his wish, but if you’re a Wolves fan, you think ‘cleaned up’.

Nunes joined Wolves last summer, signing a five-year contract with Molineux after joining Sporting Lisbon for a club record £38 million.

He showed glimpses of his potential during his first season in the Premier League, but struggled to maintain consistency in a season that saw Wolves recover after being bottom of the league table ahead of the World Cup break.

Pep Guardiola turned his attention to Nunes after a possible transfer of West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta fell through.

Paqueta was poised for a £70 million transfer to Etihad this summer, but the deal stalled after Mail Sport revealed the Brazilian was the subject of an FA investigation into possible betting offences.
