Tottenham ‘are considering a shock late move for £70m-rated Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze after growing frustrated with Brennan Johnson pursuit’

Tottenham could make a late deadline day move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze after talks over the signing of Brennan Johnson stalled.

The Spurs were eager to sign Johnson from Nottingham Forest, but are struggling to agree a fee for the Welsh forward and are looking at alternative options.

The club is said to be a long way from Forest’s valuation of Johnson of £40 million, with some close to the situation believing that Evangelos Marianakis and Daniel Levy are unlikely to be able to secure a deal.

With the deal with Johnson looking unlikely, Tottenham could turn their attention to Palace striker Eze, according to the newspaper Independent. While Spurs boss Ange Postecoglu is still looking at his attacking options following the sale of Harry Kane.

However, Palace are likely to demand a fee of more than £70 million for their number 10, an amount that may prove too high for the north London club.

Eze moved from QPR to Selhurst Park in 2020 and has become a key player with the Eagles. Thanks to last season’s performances, he has worked his way into the England squad.

Palace have already managed to turn down claims for another of their stars in Michael Olise, and would be reluctant to let Eze leave so late in the window as well.

Tottenham have also looked at a transfer for Barcelona winger Ansu Fati, with a loan deal seemingly easier to negotiate, but it now appears the Spanish star is poised for a move to Brighton.
