Casey DeSantis revealed Wednesday that a 100-year-old oak tree fell on the Florida governor’s mansion while she and the kids were home when Hurricane Idalia made landfall.

“100-year-old oak falls on the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee – Mason, Madison, Mamie and I were home at the time, but luckily no one was hurt,” the Florida first lady wrote, sharing a shocking image of a massive tree split in two, draped over part of the historic house.

“Our prayers are for everyone affected by the storm,” she added.

Hurricane Idalia made landfall at 7:45 a.m. in Taylor County, about 90 miles southeast of the state’s capital, Tallahassee. It was a Category 4 storm for a short time, but it was a Category 3 storm when it hit the Florida coastline. Heading into Georgia, the area has weakened to Category 1, even though officials warn it remains dangerous.

Governor Ron DeSantis said his family was “doing well.”

The governor, who is at the state’s emergency operations center, said Casey called to tell him about the incident.

“I don’t know if it fell like the dwelling on each side. I think it was a little bit on the side,” he said.

He noted, “If they cut down the whole tree, it will just create more room for my kids to play baseball.”

Hurricane Idalia has claimed two lives so far after making landfall in Florida. It is now heading for the Georgia coastline.

It left behind fallen trees and power lines. According to the National Hurricane Center, some areas could be submerged by 12- to 16-foot floods and hit by destructive waves.

About 300,000 people in Florida are without power, according to officials.

More than 900 flights at airports in Florida and Georgia were delayed or canceled on Wednesday.

“Isalia is the strongest storm to hit this part of Florida — to make landfall in this part of Florida in over 100 years,” FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell said Wednesday.
