Mamamia founder Mia Freedman calls out Karl Stefanovic for No Filter podcast snub after years of being ‘friends’ at Channel Nine

Media personality Mia Freedman has lashed out at Karl Stefanovic for refusing to appear on her No Filter podcast, despite being friends with the Today presenter when she worked at Channel Nine.

Freedman, co-founder of women’s lifestyle website Mamamia, lashed out at her former girlfriend, 49, via Instagram Stories on Tuesday when she uploaded a photo of herself watching Stefanovic host the Today show.

On Stefanovic’s official Instagram account, the 51-year-old wrote, “Hey (Stefanovic), why don’t you get on No Filter?”

In a second post, she uploaded a candid photo of Stefanovic, presumably taken by Freedman while walking along the water.

‘My mate. You interview people for your job. You’re much better at it than I am. You interviewed me for years when I was on (Today),” she wrote.

‘I was at 40! We were friends,” Freedman added.

However, Stefanovic could make a compelling case for why he would never sit down for an interview with Freedman, given her close friendship with his former Today co-host turned rival Lisa Wilkinson.

Wilkinson herself has appeared on Freedman’s podcast in the past, after discussing Stefanovic’s messy divorce from wife Cassandra Thorburn on a November 2016 episode of No Filter.

She uploaded this candid photo of Stefanovic, presumably taken by Freedman, with the caption, “My dude. You interview people for your job. You're much better at it than I am. You interviewed me for years when I was on (Vandaag)'

Stefanovic and co-hosted the Today show with Wilkinson for a decade prior to her shock departure in 2017 amid a pay equality dispute.

The incident is said to have sparked a long-standing feud between Wilkinson and Stefanovic.

The couple’s rift escalated in 2021 when Wilkinson released her memoir, It Wasn’t Meant to Be Like This, which details her final months as a Today host.

In the book, she claimed that the pay gap between herself and Stefanovic was once “so extraordinary that no one would have believed it.”

However, it was later reported that at the beginning of their on-air partnership she had actually made more than Karl for years, and it was not until Seven tried to take Karl away that he was able to negotiate the higher salary.

Lisa omitted to include this important detail in her memoir, focusing instead on the pay gap during her later years at the helm of Today.

Wilkinson also wrote about the controversy surrounding Stefanovic’s personal life, describing her reaction when she learned that her former colleague had found love with Jasmine Stefanovic just months after his highly publicized breakup.

Freedman previously worked with Stefanovic at Nine after she was hired by the company to host the chat show The Catch-Up in 2007, and as a regular commentator on the Today show.

The Catch-Up was a ratings failure and Freedman left Nine after only a year.
