Police have requested information after Jamaal Lascelles was involved in a violent brawl in central Newcastle at 4am.

The Newcastle captain was on a night out with his younger brother and friend after the Magpies’ 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, August 20 before a ‘violent attack’ erupted.

It is said that a man elbowed Lascelles’ 19-year-old sibling in the throat in an “unprovoked attack”, prompting the Newcastle defender to get involved.

Mail Sport exclusively revealed how a gang allegedly ‘threatened to shoot’ Lascelles during the mass brawl, which took place after the England defender left Chinawhite nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police confirmed on Monday that an investigation into the brawl has been launched and have now issued a call for more information about the incident.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: ‘Shortly after 4am on Sunday 20 August, we received a report of disturbances involving a number of people on Westgate Road, in Newcastle city centre.

Officers were present, but it is believed those involved had already left the scene before they arrived.

“Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information should use the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or call 911 quoting NP-20230820-0227.”

After Lascelles’ brother was allegedly elbowed, an onlooker claims the centre-back intervened and pushed the man away.

It is alleged that a bottle of vodka was then thrown at Lascelles, narrowly missing his head. A group of ‘six to eight’ men then ‘attacked’ the 29-year-old star, causing him to be ‘beaten from all sides’.

It is said that he managed to throw one of the men to the ground, but his brother was ‘punched in the face and bleeding’. Their friend, meanwhile, was “kicked in the head and knocked unconscious.” It was during the argument that the group allegedly said they were going to “shoot” Lascelles.

In a video from Mail Sport, Lascelles leans over one of the men on the road and appears to call for calm when he is blinded and punched in the face. He responds by punching the same man.

Sources say the Nottingham-born star acted in self-defense during the incident, trying to protect his teenage brother.

The group of men then ran away before emergency services arrived and Lascelles’ friend was taken to hospital.

Bystanders say they feared he was dead, as he was unconscious for 15 minutes while paramedics worked on him. Police have since spoken to the alleged victim, although we understand no arrests have been made.

Newcastle, meanwhile, is aware of the incident and has seen the video. They say the matter will be handled internally.

Lascelles, who joined the club in 2014, was an unused substitute in Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat at home to Liverpool on Sunday. He made 225 appearances for the Magpies and has been captain of the club since 2016.
